Matched by Ally Condie

Matched (Matched, #1)

Description:

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

My Opinion:

YES! A secular book that I can enjoy:)

Even though this book is secular it is definitely clean also. There were a few kisses throughout the book but they weren't descriptive. Most of the romance was a knowing look, brush of the arm, actions done, or holding of hands. Cute stuff that pretty much starts off a relationship. It was very enjoyable;)

The beginning half of the book was kind of slow for me and the writing was not my favorite, but the story by far made up for my dislikes.

Matched is a Dystopian, "an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives." I am definitely a fan of books like this although I have not read many.

In this story, everything is supposed to be predictable, pre-ordained. From what you eat to if you will finish a race first. From what your future career will be to whom you will marry. From the time you are born to the time of your death, everything you do the officers knew whould happen. Isn't that a weird thought? It's like the people in charge are trying to play God?

However, even though the peoples lives in Matched are supposed to be predictable, I love that Ally's story is not. I have no idea what will happen in the next book, Crossed. I ordered it as well as Reached from the library the minute after I finished this one. Can't wait to read it!

Rating: 5 Stars

This is really random but I absolutely loved this quote from the book. - "...And they will turn from ash and nothing into flesh and blood." I have no idea why, it just impacted me in a way I can't explain. I think it's really cool and I just thought I would share it:)

  1. Great review, Salyna, really enjoyed your comments! And yes, there are many YA books that are clean reads with GREAT stories :) One of my fave ones was Uglies by Westerfeld. I read Crossed a while ago and liked it, so glad you enjoyed it! Looking forward to your comments on the rest of the series :) Still praying about your mouth and all your schooling, blessings Salyna!

    1. Thanks Purple Lovin' friend;)

My tooth is still not fixed yet but I have an appointment on Thursday to maybe get braces and my tooth fixed. My Finals are next week on Monday and Tueday. I'm still a little stressed because teachers are starting to cram us with review and it's exhausting! Expecially when they count that as a grade too...

I'm getting through it though knowing that after next week I am out for the summer:) Stress free... Can't wait!

Again, thanks for the prayers and I hope you enjoy my other reviews for the series coming soon:)
